Psalm 91:14
20/04/11 19:33 Filed in: Bible Teaching | Psalms
“Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.”
Have you ever wondered what we need to do to prove to the Lord that we love Him? It almost seems insignificant to say to Him, “I love you.” But you are not insignificant to Him. He created you in His own image with the desire for fellowship, communion and relationship with Him.
This verse reveals to us that to show the Lord God Almighty that we love Him all we have to do is acknowledge His name! Amazing! It reminds me of when our own kids were little and they would be playing with a bunch of other tots. Just one cry or one call of Mom from one of mine and immediately they had my attention! A parent can distinguish their child’s cry from all the others. They know if it means they are hurt, needs the toilet, are whining, or just wants the assurance you are there.
The Father promises that if we set our love on Him, that if we join or cling to Him, because we acknowledge His name that He is there for us. All we have to do is call out His name. Call upon me and I will answer you, ask and it shall be given to you. If you ask the Father anything in my name it shall be done for you. These are the promises we need to know.
When we acknowledge His name we submit ourselves under His mighty hand. Sometimes like a child we just need the assurance of a hug. Even as a grandparent I love it when the kids run up, throw their little arms around me, and say I love you. There is something about being acknowledged and loved.
Our heavenly Father says that simply because we love Him and call on His name He is there for us. He will rescue us from the ‘bullies’ in our lives and He will protect us. There is nothing like the safety of the caring Father’s arms to keep you secure!
